The Crisis Informatics Lab is led by Amanda L. Hughes, an Associate Professor in BYU's Information Technology & Cybersecurity Program. The lab focuses on studying, designing, and building technology for how social media is used in times of crisis and disaster.

Professor Amanda Lee Hughes

Amanda L. Hughes is an Associate Professor of Information Technology in Brigham Young University's School of Technology. As a recognized research leader in the area of Crisis Informatics, her work investigates the use of social media during crises and mass emergencies. She studies, designs, implements, and deploys software systems that improve crisis communications based on deep understandings of the social context in which they reside.

Tanner is a Sophomore majoring in Information Technology. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, grew up in Utah, & served his mission in New Zealand. His field of interest UX/UI Design & Research, & some of his hobbies include producing music, DJing, & roller skating.

Andrew White

Andrew is a Junior majoring in Information Technology. He was born in Washington, grew up in Bakersfield, California, and served his Mission in Portugal. His fields of interest are UXD, IoT, Machine Learning, and Web Development, and some of his hobbies include Soccer, Tennis, Dance, and playing the piano.

Jiuliang Zhang

Jiuliang Zhang

Jiuliang is a master's student from the school of technology studying cybersecurity. He likes to get his hands dirty in order to learn new things. He is currently holding more than 20 certifications from various organizations. He is an expert in cloud computing and Linux and Windows system administration. He has interests in many different aspects of IT, such as project management, cybersecurity, networking, automation, machine learning, data analytics, and virtualization.
